Loyal Lobos is the moniker of Andrea Silva, a Colombian singer/songwriter who is making waves with her latest single, "Dirt." With pure, First Aid Kit like vocals and dark, lush imagery, Silva sings of toxic attractions. Of the song, she says:
Chemicals fooling you and your instincts and for the moment it seems real and special but then it isn’t but you can’t help but surrender sometimes. Dirt is about an apocalyptic hookup.
Silva came from a culture embroiled in misogyny, and entered the United States slightly unprepared for the misogyny of the music industry. Her music is wonderfully feminist, and "Dirt" is no exception, exploring that damned if you do, damned if you don't aspect of today's hookup culture.
