Le Grind break a sweat with new dance track "Bricks"

Last week, I wrote about disco making a hard comeback in the pop and dance genres. If you still need more evidence, look no further than Le Grind. The British electro-pop group gave us the first listen to their latest dance track "Bricks."

It's fitting that this group met while singing along to a Prince track in New York, becaus the track pulls influence from quintessential disco artists of the 70's and 80's. Lead vocalist Reyna Lauren is confident and sassy, reminiscent of Chaka Khan – another person whose music is difficult to simultaneously listen to and sit still. The music and production screams of early Michael Jackson (check out that bass line), and the whole thing is overlain with a fresh house beat. "Bricks" is about working hard for success – it draws on themes of rejecting the notion that we are all special. It's a track to tell you to work for what you want and get up off your couch. "Bricks" is both repetitive and spontaneous enough to keep you on your feet for hours. When played loudly (as it's meant to be), this track sounds as if it's coming from inside your own head. Le Grind want us to get up and have a religious experience on the dance floor, and we are inclined to oblige them.
