Since Steve Angello released his album Wild Youth in 2016, he's focused his record label, Size Records, on sourcing new talent that helps grow the label's unique brand of sound. Size's latest signees have arrived, in the form of CYA. Purported as a "mysterious" duo, CYA has the backing of some major players in the house music scene – Pete Tong and others – with this single just being their first release. But there's no doubt that the track, "Mistakes," deserves some attention.
Premiered via Steve Angello's residency on BBC Radio 1 a few months ago, "Mistakes" starts out with a uniquely recognizable murmur of a synth progression, a reminder of progressive house's heyday just a few years ago. But as those synths emerge, it becomes much more than that. "Mistakes" holds on to the appeal, what got us hooked, to big room house, before it became a craze, but builds upon those elements in a way that's unexpected. It, like many Size releases we've seen recently, has a tinge of rock influence, as well as a true progressive, layered feel. "Mistakes" is out on Friday, February 24th via Size Records of course, and is seemingly just the first we'll see from this new duo CYA.
