Fans of Lupe Fiasco have been through a lot in recent months, with the rapper's indecisiveness on Twitter stirring up questions as to whether or not he'd be drawing his storied career to a close. Tweets like "I get the hint God. Yo Lupe fans it's been fun and I hope you've had fun. I'm officially not releasing anymore music. Albums cancelled" that came in the wake of the controversy over potentially anti-semitic lyrics in his "N.E.R.D." freestyle made it look like there was no hope for the handful of 2017 releases the Chicago rapper promised to drop. But, fortunately, Lupe doesn't look to be throwing in the towel just yet, with his new track,"Wild Child", delivering an exciting taste of his upcoming album, DROGAS Light.
This is pop-rap through and through, from the sweet and sharp guitars to the polished, infinitely catchy hook sung by relatively unknown 18-year-old Berklee guitar student and singer-songwriter Jake Torrey. It's a song that's infectious and fun, never taking itself too seriously, but also never sacrificing a great, thoughtful bar for extra pop appeal. Between this and "Jump" featuring Gizzle, another new track that premiered Monday on Beats 1, Lupe seems to be in peak form both musically and lyrically, meaning 2017 is bound to have some gems in store.
DROGAS Light is set to be released on February 10th but, until then, keep your eyes on EARMILK for the latest on the one and only Lupe Fiasco.
