Yesterday, Dumbfoundead made his return to the digital airwaves with independent release We Might Die. This marks the first release for the vet of former Project Blowed and Swim Team fame since Old Boy Jon in 2013, which was also an independent release. The tape is a short and sweet ten tracks but DFD minces no words, declaring, "When I die, I'm a god, paint me large on the wall" on opening track "Murals."
Tracks such as the aforementioned "Murals" and the eponymous "We Might Die" surround listeners with droning synths and hard bass kicks, while the CA$HPASSION and KOHH-assisted "All In" belongs more to the slow, seducing vibe of the club. Dumbfoundead shows great chemistry when assisted by fellow battle rapper Nocando, Bay Area great Too $hort, and Korean compatriot Jay Park. All three tag teams make for an experience that shows that the boy from Los Angeles' K-Town has fully embraced his own sound. Very few battle rappers are able to transition from the cypher to the studio, but Dumbfoundead champions his heritage.
