After grabbing the world’s attention and hitting the #4 spot on Spotify’s global viral chart with “PCB (feat. Rahn Harper), Pink Slip, aka producer Kyle Buckley, is reaching for more with his debut EP, PinkMotel, out on Big Beat’s White Label in 2017.
“2 U”, the lead single from the EP, is out now, and like PinkSlip’s previous work, it’s a glorious mashup of pop, funk, future bass, and R&B. Lending the song elements of the latter is soulful singer-songwriter Anthony Pavel, best known for featuring on At.Long.Last.A$AP.’s “Come Home.”
The track kicks off with just Pavel singing the chorus before some Cashmere Cat-esque synths and drums kick in. Everything ramps up into the second chorus, where Pink Slip runs a funky bassline over stuttering drums and wobbling synths. Pavel puts in another verse, showing off his vocal chops in the bridge just before the second chorus, a cacophony of sounds and dance genres that segues to a trickle of synths before the close.
Check out “2 U” here, and be on the lookout for Pink Slip’s debut EP in the new year.
