Atlanta…home of the Braves, the Georgia Dome, Pin-Ups, the MARTA, Glady's Chicken & Waffles and breeding ground for ATLiens, has become more than just a music hub over the last decade and a half. The city has abducted and given rise to so many, outside and within its walls, that it is safe to say it can be included among the ranks of New York and L.A. as an industry hub (and that is to say industry across various mediums). Classic the Legend happens to be an abductee.
Originally from Virginia's capital, Richmond, the emcee was beamed up and set out to increase awareness of his lyricisms. Classics' moniker is the embodiment of his style. What comes to mind when you think of Notorious B.I.G.? Classic. Goodie Mob & Outkast? Classic. The Gza? Classic. Rae the Chef? Legend. In fact, If the Chef's grandson and Gza's granddaughter got together and had a child who grew up and inherited the traits of his grandfathers', I would imagine he'd sound something like this. To the conditioned ATLien ear, his music may come off as passe, but contrary to popular belief, the city has a unique way of embracing the unconventional and evocative. This raw and unfiltered hip-hop is a direct result of the absent tutelage of hip-hop's grand predecessors and what I am assuming to be many hours in cyphers on the streets of Richmond. Regardless of where it came from, it is worth checking out.
