It's amazing how music can be so easily forgotten. But with the help from artists like Geko Jones, it's easy to revive what may have gotten lost along the way. Jones, an NYC-based producer, has always been enthralled with Afro-Latin music with electronic production, and in his crate digging came upon a unique Nuyorican (New York/Puerto Rico) soul singer named Ralfi Pagan. Pagan's music has been lost after his career in the 1960's and 70's, especially after his murder in Colombia in 1978. And guys like Jones are set to bring authentic music like Pagan's back, this time, in a remix album entitled Ralfi Pagan – Latin Soul Remixed.
We have a first listen to one remix from the album, done by Sweden's Cocotaxi. Out for special free download ahead of the compilation's release, Cocotaxi has brought hip hop and deep house elements to the already soulful track "Pelao." Translating the old into new, Cocotaxi has joins others in honoring the music that inspires.
