It's been a quiet past year for Avicii. The Swedish dance music superstar found himself on the heels of his successful debut album True, at the end of 2013, but also on the brink of some personal health problems. After pulling out of Ultra Music Festival last minute due to gallbladder issues in 2014, later that fall, he eventually pulled from his famously jam packed list of tour dates for the year, nearly one year after the release of True.
Since then, his label PRMD has flourished with artists like Cazzette taking the foreground. That is, until his return at this year's Ultra. Though it wasn't broadcasted, attendees witnessed the return of Tim Bergling to the stage, as well as a teaser across the visual monitors reading, "Stories." While we can guess that's the name of his next album, we haven't heard much from Avicii since that performance in March.
During last week's EDC Week, a lot of fun surprises happened in the dance music community. But one that might not be so obvious is starting to go viral, in the form of a recording of last week's SiriusXM live broadcast of Avicii's performance at the Las Vegas club. In the hour and two minute recording, we get the first look into his live sets that we've seen in months, and if there's any deduction we can make from the style: it's on purpose, and and a signal of things to come through the rest of 2015. The set features classic Avicii-style mash ups, mixing his own hits with classic house and just the perfect amount of current tracks. It also features multiple IDS, some of which fans have already started naming already: "Hope In Your Heart," and "Heaven," his rumored collaboration with Chris Martin.
Though the release of Stories isn't confirmed, the timing of this mix is reminiscent of his 2013 Promo Mix, which detailed everything we could expect from True. The mix became the soundtrack to many summer parties, as this mix poses to do as well.
