Azizi Gibson is "Smoking with the Gods"

When I last covered Brainfeeder rapper Azizi Gibson, for his Kaytranada-produced track "Crown Violet," he was hinting at an upcoming release but giving no specifics.  Now, with the arrival of new track "Smoking with the Gods," he's announced that a new EP, Backwards Books, will drop July 1.

As the title makes pretty clear, "Smoking with the Gods" is a classic weed anthem, with some very solid production coming courtesy of Intellect.  Azizi Gibson reminds me in a great way of Schoolboy Q, both in his delivery and in his rapping about eating shrooms and "taking weed naps on the moon."  With the combo of "Crown Violet" and "Smoking With the Gods," Backwards Books is looking like one you'll want to hear cover-to-cover.
