Rising London based Soul/R&B vocalist, Fatima, has been slowly but surely paving a lane for not only herself but that of her label, Eglo Records, over the last half decade. Having collaborated with artist like Dam-Funk and Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra, the swedish born songstress has been a focal piece at the heart of Eglo's sound. Although often associated with Electronic, Eglo's sonic roots can be traced to Soul, Jazz and House. Standing out from their contemporaries, the label has developed a reputation that values songwriting and composition over club appeal. Don't mistake my words – a quick listen to Fatima's label mate, Funkineven, will clearly reflect Eglo's ability to jam.
With "Ridin Round", Fatima summons the talents of Scoop DeVille, the producer responsible for Kendrick Lamar's "Poetic Justice". In a very minimal effort, Scoop uses subtle percussion reminiscent of Outkasts' "Spottiottiedopaliscious", allowing Fatima to really set the tone for the track as she croons, creating something of a funky spiritual. Her debut album, the Yellow Memories LP, drops May 12 and will include production from Oh No, KNX (aka Knxledge), and Eglo co-founder Floating Points.
