Last month we covered Terrell Morris’ “Shallow Hal” and now we’ve got a video from the Toronto emcee. The ghoulish production for the intense track was executed by young Texan Eric Dingus, who EARMILK interviewed a couple weeks ago and has a lot of the big time eyes on him right now, including those of Drake’s OVO camp. With this new video for “Shallow Hal”, Morris’ unorthodox flow, his confident lyrical efforts and the sleek production are all realised in visuals which seemingly reject YouTube’s screen allocation. Instead a smaller, monochrome rectangle is the platform for director Richenzo Faison’s vision as Morris and others take in the smoky surroundings amidst ink blot animation and some blurring at the conclusion, while the former T.City’s rhymes spin off the face of the Dingus beat. Our feelings last time that this track feels really heavy but with ease are now visualised with a marriage of menacing imagery and Morris just enjoying it all. This edgy rapper’s new mixtape On Y Va is pencilled in for a Spring release so be on the lookout for that, in the mean time “Shallow Hal” is a video which represents a culmination of some ambitious work from everyone involved so check it out.
