These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop your searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO!
As February winds down, the only thing that I'm more excited about than these new mashups is the fact that the weather is finally becoming warmer. After going through a brutal (personally speaking) winter, it's amazing to finally be able to drive around playing these tunes in some shorts and with the windows rolled down. Don't worry about cranking up that heater, but just enjoy the cool breeze as the music flows out from your speakers. Starting us off is DJ Topsider's first of two mashups, titled "Hit The Street". Featuring elements from Wave Racer's remix of Panama's "Always", Jay-Z's "Tom Ford", and Borgore's "Wild Out" featuring Waka Flocka Flame & Paige, "Hit The Street" is a bubbly mashup that equal parts infectious and well-constructed. This mashup is appropriately titled for when you're driving around as spring nears.
In case you're still in the chilly grips of winter, Isosine gives us "Perth Love" for when you're huddled around the fireplace or while you're sipping some hot chocolate, coffee, or tea (whichever you prefer). Daughter delivers emotional vocals that naturally fit with Bon Iver's "Perth", immersing you in a nirvana-like experience. Elena Tonra (lead singer of Daughter) is amazing on her own original tracks, so it's only expected for her to sound so wonderfully with Bon Iver. Kudos to Isosine for delivering us this pleasantly relaxing gem.
For those looking for mashers that I haven't featured before, then look no further than Janet Jack's Son and DiscoSid. Janet Jack's Son (love the name) gives us a trap heavy mashup that combines Kanye West's "I'm In It" with Elaski's "Want You", culminating in a bass-rattling banger. Kanye is well-suited for this genre, and his flow effortlessly on point when overlaid on "Want You". On the other hand, DiscoSid opts to go with JackLNDN's "Drop Out" and Timbaland's "The Way I Are" resulting in fun house track that may have you unabashedly singing along. The bouncy nature of "Drop Out" gives Keri Hilson's vocals the ability to enthusiastically, and almost flirtatiously, frolic along. DiscoSid and Janet Jack's Son both show an ability to deliver hits, so I'll be certain to keep an ear out for their future releases.
Additionally, we've got mashups from Frank Carmine, The Hood Internet, DJ Tripp, and The Melker Project's latest EP Trill Collins. Following the success of similar projects Ballin' Oates, Skeetwood Mac, and The Skeetles, Scott tackles the classic songs of Phil Collins and introduces various hip-hop artists such as Nas, Jay-Z, Gucci Mane and others. As always, Melker doesn't disappoint with his unique interpretation of these artists and his mashups do their respective tracks justice.
