Having recently been declared as BBC's 'Sound of 2014', soulful British vocalist Sam Smith has followed in the footsteps of some of the industry's biggest talents, with past winners including indie rockers HAIM, pop superstar Jessie J and EARMILK favourite Ellie Goulding. The young Englishman had quite an amazing year in 2013, where he co-wrote and sang in arguably the biggest hit of the year (well, in the UK anyway) Naughty Boy's "La La La" as well as teaming up with another favourite duo of ours here at EARMILK, Disclosure.
It was plain to see that he has the talent, and the BBC award given to him is just small piece of credit for what is an already blossoming career. With that already under his belt, Sam's released his official music video for the first single to be taken from his debut album, "Money On My Mind". The visuals for this uplifting track were filmed around the Las Vegas strip, and fit with the happy, uptempo nature of the song, almost invigorating the viewer with a sense of joy, as shots of Sam walking through sun drenched streets are cut with night-time scenes with the trademark neon signs and wedding chapels that Vegas has become synonymous with. Whilst if you look even deeper into the video, the factor of money comes into factor (pay close attention to the motel and wedding chapel scenes), which fits in with Smith's lyrics of about love and money.
You can peep the video for "Money On My Mind" below, and the single, which includes remixes from the likes of MK and Le Youth is available to pre-order on iTunes now, before it's released on 16th February. Smith's debut album, In The Lonely Hour, is set for release on May 26th on Capitol Records.
