Yesterday British songstress Anna Calvi introduced “Suddenly,” the newest single off her sophomore album One Breath (out October 7 on Domino Records), and it’s a track that is bursting at the seams, breaking out of the confines of our speakers, and enrapturing our senses.
As with all her songs, Anna Calvi’s vocals carry the song, falling away before exploding into full on voluminous vibrato with a Fiona Apple aggression. At minute two we feel like we are in the throws of a musical war zone, the crashing cymbals and clashing notes making for a furious fanfare. In the push/pull style of the song, her wispy vocals draw us back in one last time before abruptly driving us away again.
Stream “Suddenly” below and become entranced by Anna Calvi’s powerhouse chops, mesmerizing lyrics, and operatic, chaotic orchestration of a song.
