We’ve seen some huge remixes this week, producer RAAK and rapper Gilbere Forte’s combined rework of New Zealand belle Lorde’s “Royals” is up there with the best of them. The double act, who both met during their time at Temple University, have followed it up just under a week later; this time they’ve gone to work on L.A singer Banks’s beautifully dark track, “Waiting Game”.
Originally produced by SOHN, RAAK brings the beat to life and gives a sound demonstration of his production skills; whilst letting the underlying brilliance of the original and Banks’ smooth vocals shine through, he takes the song into a hip hop realm of which Forte sounds effortlessly comfortable on. Releasing one of the best – and most slept on – tracks of the year so far (“Pray”), as well as featuring on the two class remixes released this week, the Philadelphia MC oozes convincing charisma; this, along with his authentic flow and wordplay will surely see him go on to do great things given the current work rate– the same can be said for RAAK.
