K Koke – "My Time" (Jacob Plant Remix)

My obsession with grime and UK hip-hop makes me somewhat biased towards verses spit by a UK artist, but this new K Koke track has a dope flow, pretty good lyrics, and the featured artist, Bridget Kelly, can really belt out a melody. What could make a great hip-hop song even better? TRAPISIZE IT!

Enter Jacob Plant, a London-based dubstep producer turned trap master. Plant has made appearances on BBC Radio 1 with a Mistajam guest mix and interview, as well as a featured track on the Zane Lowe show. His newest production, the aforementioned trap refix of K Koke's "My Time", really shows his trap capabilities (trapabilities?)

The tune begins with an almost chain gang rhythm, but quickly turns into the familiar ominous buildup characterized by the modern trap 2.0 movement. After that, it drops into the main event of twerkable synths and uppity bass hits. You may not be able to tell from the original, but Plant's version brings back memories of the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack; it might be the chord progression but it's most likely the dark orchestral instruments he uses.

The vocals are seamlessly fused with the all-but-completely revamped version of "My Time", possibly leaving some listeners confused as to who made the original; a true testament to the art of remixing a primarily vocal song. If you're looking for that new trap tune that will stand out amongst all the other blasé 140 productions, look no further. Grab Jacob Plant's remix of K Koke's "My Time" now for a booty-popping good time.
