Fans of Blu & Exile's sound will hear traces of it in Dag Savage's carefree "When It Rains". They should, primarily because Dag is composed of one-half of that fabled hip-hop group, Mr. Exile himself. Joined by emcee Johaz and with Aloe Blacc on this particular track, there's enough talent here to drown yourself in.
While incessant rain has gotten a bad rap over the years, in the video for "When It Rains" it takes on a positive air, becoming more of a cleansing force, a la the music video for OutKast's "Ms. Jackson", than a damnation. The only thing really damning about Dag Savage is that they haven't been around longer.
That's not to say that their formation isn't promising, as Exile's typically soulful production complements Johaz's street-heavy poetics quite nicely. If you would like to see more from the pair, support their work by checking out their latest release, The Dag Savage EP (the link is below), which dropped January 15, or by giving their first mixtape, Salvation, a spin.
