In conversation with Earmilk, YOON SAN-HA dives into how his sound has evolved, memorable moments in his journey so far, experimenting with his craft and much more.
- What’s the message/inspiration behind ‘No Reason’?
I’d say I’m a pretty simple person, so I felt the phrase “no reason” suited my personality well. In the past, I put a lot of pressure on myself to always present a perfect image and give perfect answers. But with this album, I wanted to show a more honest and natural side of myself. That’s why I chose “no reason” as the theme of the album. I wanted to show myself without trying to embellish or package anything, and that mindset became both the inspiration and the message behind the album.
2. How has your sound evolved? Is there a particular signature that you’ve shaped for yourself?
I feel like my music has grown alongside me. In the past, I felt a stronger need to present a perfect image, but these days I focus more on expressing myself honestly and showing who I truly am. As a result, I feel my music has naturally become more honest and genuine as well. As I continue learning more about myself, I hope to keep sharing new stories and new sides of myself through my music.
3. What’s your personal favourite track from the album and why?
All of them are special to me, but if I had to pick just one, it would be the title track, “IDK ME.” I was involved in every part of bringing the song to life, from deciding on the title to the album visuals, music video, and styling. Because I put so much thought and care into every step of the process, it feels especially meaningful to me.
4. How would you describe your music making process? What usually sparks your inspiration – is it personal experiences or stories around you?
Rather than actively searching for inspiration, I usually write songs based on the emotions, thoughts, or messages that naturally come to me in everyday life. Also, I try not to start with a predetermined answer, but instead express what I feel at the moment as candidly as possible. I think those experiences naturally find their way into my music.
5. What’s a genre or concept you’d love to experiment with in the future and why?
I still feel like I’m getting to know myself, which makes me wonder what kind of music I’ll create in the future. Even as I promote this album, I’m already thinking about the next one. I really enjoy discovering new sides of myself along the way. It almost feels like I have a map drawn on me, and I’m exploring it one discovery at a time. I hope to continue sharing a wide range of stories and music in the future
6. What’s been the most memorable moment of your music journey so far? What’s next for you?
It’s difficult to choose just one moment because every step of the journey has been meaningful to me in its own way. As for what’s next, I hope that more people will get to know me and my music. I’d be happy if people who listen to my music feel how sincere I am about it. More than anything, I hope my songs can stay on people’s playlists for a long time and become part of their everyday lives.
7. Finally, what’s one question no one has asked you in an interview before that you wished you were asked?
Rather than a particular question, I hope people continue to follow my journey and my music. I’m still learning about myself, and I’m curious to see what kind of music and messages I’ll be able to share a few years from now. I’ll continue to be honest and sincere through my music, and I’d be grateful if people stayed with me throughout that process!
