West Coast Canadian alternative duo SIXPOINTS draw inspiration from David Bowie’s artistic legacy on their reflective new offering “For Black Star,” a restrained production that explores the quiet mysteries of everyday life. Led by stripped back sonics and sharp lyricism, the track weaves sparse melodies with atmospheric textures for a hypnotic listening experience.
Influenced by Bowie’s final album Blackstar, particularly the song "Lazarus," the song is minimal yet meditative as it layers tender melodic elements with expansive undertones to craft a vivid, immersive soundscape. Speaking of the track, the band says, “We hope people take away that simple melodic lines can be effective and create an altered state.“We like to pare sound textures down for full meditative effect. The lyrics imply that our burdens are never too great and that our lives are a mystery to be embraced.”
Blossoming at the intersection of the physical and the spiritual narratives of life, the alluring track was written during the recording sessions for the duo’s debut album Negative Space at Monarch Studios in Vancouver, before being reworked with refreshing sonic paths. A showcase of the band's poetic, genre-blurring musicality spanning alternative, post-industrial goth and experimental rock, the track continues to keep their creative momentum going as they prepare for a new body of work to come.
