Known for blending hip-hop, R&B, alternative, electronic sounds, and hazy soundscapes, genre-defying artist 070 Shake, born Danielle Balbuena, releases a new track, “Baby Driver,” in collaboration with the battle royale video game PUBG: Battlegrounds.
Initially teased via the PUBG x PAYDAY mode trailer, “Baby Driver” blends atmospheric synths with otherworldly beatcraft, as 070 Shake’s laid-back, raspy vocal delivery immediately cuts through the mix.
The track carries a slow, marching rhythm that evokes the feeling of returning home from war, emotionally exhausted yet certain you fought a meaningful battle. That sentiment draws a natural parallel to the video game’s thematic world.
Thick bass, otherworldly synths, heavily reverberated vocals, and ambient textures work together to pull the listener fully into its immersive sonic space.
The track climaxes on an arresting, anthemic hook punctuated by an exorcism of raw emotion in the line, “There’s nothing more we could get out of here.” It highlights her uncanny ability to blur sonic, creative, and emotional boundaries.
070 Shake is slated to join Daniel Caesar on his “SON OF SPERGY” tour across North America later this summer.
The tour begins on August 6 in Montreal, QC, at Bell Centre, visits major cities across the continent, and concludes on August 23 in Anaheim, CA, at Honda Center.
