Beijing-hailing emerging art-pop/alt-pop singer-songwriter Mixol unveils vulnerable, coming-of-age offering “mixologist,” confronting adulthood and the passage of time.
A reflective number laden with her signature blend of orchestral soundscapes wrapped in a theatrical pop flourish, the track showcases her ability to weave bold but emotionally unfiltered narratives that feel intimate yet relatable. Accompanied by a visionary animated lyric video, the track is an alluring peek at Mixol’s world-building abilities as she invites listeners to dive deeper into her magical, twisted universe.
Delivering a peek at her debut EP, The Fool, a sharply metaphoric and cinematic collection rooted in tarot, Mixol describes “mixologist” as a peek into a younger, unpolished version of her.
Speaking of where the track sits within the larger narrative of The Fool’s musical journey, she says, “I think it’s a pre-journey side of me…? The reason why I chose to release mixologist right now is that I feel it will be too late if I release it later, since I’m 24 years old now, and I thought it will be so embarrassing to show people my thoughts and those unfiltered emotions in the song that I wrote when I was 22… I don’t know why I think I should write better songs that contain deeper meanings. Just imagined a 26-year-old me and she should be singing more philosophical topics and stuff isn’t she? But that’s a really challenging one. Mixologist just symbolizes a specific time period of me growing up, when I’ve been an adult for a while – almost 6 years, but still feel awkward living in my body, the vessel of my soul, before I head out to a huge journey where I gambled my life on it.”
A cult-inspired art-pop artist who crafts immersive, multi-platform experiences built on with intriguing stories framed by haunting notes and empowering vibes in equal parts, Mixol is an innovative rising talent worth your attention.
