Experimental indie folk post-rock art-pop project ZETI captures the legacy of recently passed artists and musicians Jfre Coad and Rich Jacobs with a DIY ethos on intricate EP It is what it is – Prevail.
Born from compounded grief in a season of relentless tragedy, the project is a celebration of endurance through hardship elevated by wisdom, ritual and community of support.
From the exploration of climate and political collapse on "Remain," and a meditation of surrender to devastation on strikingly vulnerable “Candlelight”, to reflections on tender care and encouragement on “Look at the Sky” juxtaposed against the grit and resolve of “When a Poet is Killed,” the EP is expression of collective freedom, healing, connection and spirituality.
With each song on the project accompanied and elevated by experimental film accompaniment prepared by Ellie Vanderlip of Shapeshifters Cinema in Oakland, California, the EP is shaped with a touch of comfort amidst hard times.
Speaking of th EP, the artist says "My intention for sharing this music is that people will feel supported in navigating devastation, to be able to come face to face with the unwanted and find ways to reckon with reality as it’s presenting itself. To feel in solidarity, supported by an invisible interconnected web. To feel fortified with deep roots of being a part of something greater, to take the next best step no matter how small, to prevail through the unimaginable– to continue to blossom and tend, in spite of it all."
Led by by Margaret Stutt, ZETI has grown from a cathartic genre-bending bedroom project to an creative sonic experience rooted in connection and intimacy in equal parts, as preparations for a double LP continue onwards with perfect momentum.
