Snake and the Rabbit captures being true selves on "Small Town Blues"

Americana duo Snake and the Rabbit encapsulates the feeling less than because of others on “Small Town Blues.” Rooted in their unique blend of Americana, psychedelic folk, American blues, Outlaw Country and lo-fi rock, the track taps into a negative experience and transforms it into something to push towards empowerment.

Reflecting on feeling trapped, weighed down or hurt by the judgements, thoughts and actions of others even when you know you deserve more, the track is honest and vulnerable as it draws from personal experience.

The husband-wife duo Brett and Leanna “Lee” Patterson reflect on the incident that inspired the track, saying, “In May 2025 we were supposed to open for a national touring band from Texas at a local venue here in Pensacola, FL. The day of the show, we arrived about 30 minutes before the doors were supposed to open and were told by the local sound guy, “Don’t unload your gear. You’re late and you aren’t playing.” To this day, we don’t know if it was the touring band or the venue that skipped us. Either way, we weren’t allowed to play the show. It didn’t matter we had fans who bought tickets to see us. It didn’t matter that we only needed a quick line check. No explanation, just “You aren’t playing.”

Capturing defiance and confidence in the face of those that try to dull your shine, the track is as relatable as it is personal as it delivers a much-needed reminder to stay true to ourselves and keep going in pursuit of our dreams no matter what anyone else has to say about it.

Founded upon the duo’s distinct brand of music they call “cowgirl surf,” the track is showcases their signature intimate yet engaging musical style, framed by Lee’s crisp vocals and poetic songwriting.

Having started their journey as Snake and the Rabbit in 2020 with weekly livestream performances, the pair have steadily built a fanbase for their grounded yet immersive artistry as they continue to hone and evolve their sound with each new offering.
