UK cloud rap artist, producer and founder of brand/label Clouded North, NTHN reflects on fading friendships on “Lonely Again,” a reflective number touched by the melancholia of growing older and drifting apart from people once close to you.
Blossoming within his atmospheric blend of cloud rap, emo rap, 90s hip hop, ambient, shoegaze and metal, the bittersweet offering manages to tap into the ache of loneliness while also ushering appreciation for those who remain, the track is deeply relatable as it weaves a emotive yet airy soundscape.
Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, he says, “I was invited to an event in a room with over 1000 people, in so much company and so many conversations, yet there was only one person in the room who really knows me well, below the surface, and knowing that if they weren't there, I would feel so alone. It made me question why we invest so much of our time into moments with people who won't be there when we need them most and reminded me of how important it is to hold onto those who are still around.”
Released around the holiday season, the moody but anthemic track sharpens the thin line between gratitude for what we have and the forlorn knowledge of the lonely normalcy around the corner. Crafted as a vulnerable yet comforting musical experience, the self-produced track sees NTHN process his own experience while offering solace and hope to those experience a similar loneliness.
