NYC-based Latin-Alternative project, THE KOIWAY shares powerful single “Cordillera,” delivering an immersive blend of Andean folk elements with modern Latin-alternative production.
Diving into theme of ancestry and displacement, the track encapsulates the burdens we carry as well as the resilience to move past loss. An enduring sonic experience built on intricate layers, the track features performances by THEKOIWAY’s core collaborators: Arturo de las Fuentes on vocals; Matt Lambert on drums; Pedro Villagra on quenas, zampoñas, and additional charango; and Victor performing electric bass, guitar, acoustic guitar, charango, piano, and synths.
Written and composed by Victor Vildósola and Arturo de las Fuentes, the track was recorded in New York City by Victor, Arturo, and Matt Lambert, mixed by Claudio Quiñones, and mastered by Tom Waltz, the soulful anthem sways between ancestral tones and contemporary textures to deliver a tender yet empowering message of refuge and survival.
The accompanying lyric video features a moving performance by Héctor Noguera, one of Chile’s most beloved actors and a pillar of Latin American arts who recites an excerpt from “Los Nuevos Pueblos” by Raúl Zurita — National Arts Prize recipient and winner of the Reina Sofía Award for Ibero-American Poetry.
Known for their socially conscious music rooted in migration, identity, and storytelling, THEKOIWAY continues to build stories laden with diversity and connection.
