Hot in Atlanta, a new band, KINSALE, has just dropped their very first EP, "Nights & Weekends." This deeply felt, comforting indie rock project is built on a shared connection among friends who have lived together and spent hours in the studio. The band's sound is a place where indie rock, alternative, Americana, and folk overlap across six tracks that stretch to nearly 22 minutes.
"Nights & Weekends" was produced, engineered, and mixed by Damon Moon at Standard Electric Recorders Co., and its mastering is credited to Joe Lambert. On the EP, an impressive roster of additional musicians appears, amongst them superstar drummers Aaron Sterling and JT Bates. Roger Manning provides stunning keyboard parts, Ethan Fogus adds warm pedal steel, and Aaron Marsh adds elegant string arrangements.
KINSALE draws on influences such as The War on Drugs, Wilco, R.E.M., The Format, and Tom Petty, while blending past sounds with its own original touch. Instead, they carve their own path with unique guitar lines, relatable lyrics, and a fine accessible construction. Standout tracks like "Is It Time," "Carolina," and "Spinning Wheels" demonstrate the band's balance of emotional openness and kinetic, road-tested dynamism.
"Is It Time" opens the EP with wide-melodic confidence, while "Carolina" captures folk-rock memories that feel like headlights clearing a stretch of late-night highway. "Spinning Wheels," a song that transcends with its catchy guitar riffs and soul-bearing vocal performance, you can't seem to get out of your head.
"Nights & Weekends" is the product of a lifelong music love affair between Raymond Gurley on vocals and guitars, Jeff Malpass on bass guitar, engineering, and David Thornton on guitars and piano. With "Nights & Weekends," KINSALE offers a debut that is thoughtful, chilled-out, and deeply emotional. If the future of the genre lies in its quieter moments, this is required listening for fans looking for new artists making heartfelt music with purpose.
