Hilary Duff is more “Mature” and returns to music after 10 years with latest single

The early 2000s Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire star, Hilary Duff, comes back to music with new single, “Mature.” The 38-year-old sings about a guy she once was in love with and how mature he looks, but he is far from it.

After a 10-year break, Duff returns with a pop song that sounds very early '2000s, playing on a CD player while jamming in your room. Her ex-lover is with a new girl, and Duff makes fun of this man because in reality, the new girl doesn’t know him well. “She looks like all of your girls but blonder. A little like me, just younger, bet she loves it when she hears you say ‘You're so mature for your agе, babe.’ She looks like shе could be your daughter. Like me before I got smarter.” Duff can’t blame the new girl because she was once in her shoes and reflects on her past blindness. It’s almost as if Duff is talking to her younger self with lyrics, “I can't put it on her, she's a sweet kid, but she's taking the bait like we all did.”

It’s clear her ex-lover has a type, and she knows he will never truly mature, unlike herself, who has learned and matured beyond her years.

The song is great for a girls' night out or even karaoke. It would also have been a great addition to the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack.

In the music video, Duff is singing on a stage, but the only audience is herself. This could be a look at her old and new selves. At the end of the video, she holds a butterfly that eventually flies away, which could be a nod to her metamorphosis and growth. As well as the change she has been through since her first album, called "Metamorphosis" from 2003.
