Are you prepared for the love war?
R&B singer Omarion gets you ready in his latest track, “For War,” and like any battle, it comes with scars — or in this case, love scars.
The 40-year-old singer, who first gained fame in the ’90s as part of the boy band B2K, returns with a slow ballad after a year, seemingly having found someone worth fighting for — or even dying for.
Over a backdrop of piano and drums, Omarion describes the gunshot wound inflicted by a romance: “This Hennessy can't numb the pain of this gunshot wound. This hole in my chest used to be your name tattoo. Tell me, are we done for?”
In the pre-chorus, he continues: “I'd rather walk on landmines than walk around on eggshells. Are you gonna take cover? I'm 'bout to explode.”
Despite the relationship’s dysfunction and pain, he asks if his partner is still willing to fight for their love.
In the end, he wants to stay and is ready to teach them to keep fighting: “One thing I know, I won the battle but I lost the war. But now I surrender, you've captured my heart. Through the flames, you saved me from danger. If love is worth fighting for, then I can prepare you for war.”
Love, even through chaos and wounds, has found its way, and he makes it clear the war isn’t over yet.
In the real world, battles happen every day, and people fight and suffer until the end. Something is always worth fighting for — and after listening to Omarion’s three-minute song, you’ll be prepared to fight in love.
