DEADBEATS delivers: Tame Impala and friends take over Brooklyn

What makes a show fun for you? Is it the thrill of seeing the headliner perform their set? Maybe it’s the openers you’ve heard great things about—or the fact that it’s happening at a cool venue you’ve been wanting to check out.

The DEADBEATS show—presented by Columbia Records and Spotify on Friday, October 17—delivered on every level. The event spotlighted Tame Impala (aka DJ Loser) and his new fifth studio album Deadbeat, featuring performances from SEEESOOOOO, Yaeji, DJ Loser, and The Dare.  The show celebrated both the new album and the fans who’ve supported Tame Impala along the way.

The location? Easily one of the coolest spots to host a show—Pier 4 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal Annex Building.

Picture dancing to DJ sets surrounded by water, with panoramic views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. It was surreal—watching the sunset while these incredible acts DJed, layering beats and textures that felt both familiar and completely new.

Highlights from the night included Yaeji, who blended Alicia Keys’ “Feeling U, Feeling Me” into a glitchy, Caribbean-inspired groove that had the crowd cheering and dancing. The Dare later closed out the evening including a reimagined version of Marie Davidson’s “Work It,” amping up the pulse and leaving the crowd buzzing.

But the centerpiece of the night came earlier, during Tame Impala’s (DJ Loser’s) set—a performance that began, and ended, as effortlessly as it flowed.

Tame kicked things off with a casual “What’s up?” before diving into a seamless mix of tracks from the new album, looping in pulsing beats and playful pauses that kept the crowd on edge, ready to move. You could tell he was having just as much fun as everyone packed behind the DJ table.

It definitely makes you wonder which type of performance he prefers—the one where he’s on stage as Tame Impala, singing his catalog all night, or nights like this, where he gets to rework those tracks with new sonic energy against a backdrop of sea and the New York City skyline.

It was a night that brought music lovers together against a breathtaking backdrop, one that made you pause and feel grateful that events like this even exist.

Brooklyn, NY—where creativity never clocks out—was the perfect place to experience it.
