It only takes a few sentences to create a lyrical masterpiece, and Tony Molina is the Bay Area's genre-bending master of the neatly-packaged song.
At just under one minute, his newest single "Have Your Way" passively questions whether it's always a good thing to prove your point. Does it really make everything right to be right?
The single has all of Molinas's most distinct staples: light harmonies, power chords, and a little guitar squeal here and there to contrast with the clean-plucked outro. All these little bits bring the piece together in a neatly wrapped package, equally apathetic and comforting until the final line, "one day they will see and you will show them you've been right all along."
Something about a Tony Molina song makes you feel insignificant and ordinary in the best way; like everyone has felt how you've felt and there's nothing noteworthy about it. However, he shines a light on the beauty to the aimlessness of the human condition. That specific energy is an irreplicable creation of his own, and it's truly a treasure.
This single is one of 21 off of the 'On This Day' LP, available for pre-order on Bandcamp.
