The New Condition embraces uncertainty with dreamy new single “Maybe” [Video]

The New Condition’s “Maybe” feels like the echo of something half remembered yet deeply felt. Fletcher Moules, the man behind The New Condition and known best for directing Netflix’s Entergalactic and his work on the Clash of Clans universe, shifts his lens inward here. The song is built on nostalgic synth keys, crisp electric drums, and an unfiltered vocal performance that sounds both vulnerable and strangely assured. It hovers between joy and longing, capturing a mood that is wistful and cinematic without needing flamboyant crescendos.

Lyrically, “Maybe” works by embracing uncertainty in a way that feels universal. Lines like “Maybe I had something to say / Maybe I’ll just go away” and “Maybe I just want to belong” are simple but powerful, giving voice to the wobbling heart of self-doubt, belonging, and longing. The repeated use of “maybe” underlines how many of life’s decisions live in in-between spaces. The track doesn’t force answers; instead, it sits with what’s unspoken and unresolved, leaving an impression that feels like drifting between a dream and a memory.

The accompanying video underscores the track’s themes beautifully. Surreal symbolic scenes – ants carrying leaves, priests with a coffin, a protagonist driving off a cliff and descending into the sea – mirror the emotional journey of uncertainty, loss, and love. There is something cathartic in the way the visuals allow for both dread and release, especially in that final moment when the character drowns but seems to do so in love. The video feels like an extension not just of the song’s mood but of Moules’ larger artistic vision: cinema, memory, romance, fear, and beauty intertwined. With an album in the works, “Maybe” sets a compelling stage for what’s still to come.
