Indie folk artist Justin Richard continued his streak of quietly dropping songs with his newest, “The Fool.”
Released on Tuesday, the track marks the SoCal-based singer-songwriter’s second release this year following the harmonica-fueled “Rollin’” in June.
Unlike his previous two releases, “The Fool” sports a more diverse instrumentation. In addition to the usual folk trademark of acoustic guitar, Richard and his band add sparse electric guitar and pattering percussion to further complement his 60s-esque vocal delivery.
On the lyrical front, Richard attempts to process a breakup that leaves him, ironically, lost for words. He weaves a simple, yet still effective and descriptive, web reminiscent of folk classics.
Overall, “The Fool” sees Justin Richard allow the music to speak for him, and it will surely speak to those in the same boat, or even those who still yearn for Dylan-era folk music.
