Meet Liverpool’s experimental psych-rock duo Captain Crocodile, made up of producers and songwriters Jack Norrie and Raye Osterloh. Their latest single, “Your Slithery Fum,” is haunting, dreamy, and deliciously psychedelic—melding lo-fi rock with shoegaze textures.
Written and produced by Norrie and Osterloh, the track showcases a distinctive sound that blends post-punk, lo-fi psychedelia, and indie rock, with nods to artists like King Krule, Crumb, and Fontaines D.C.
Speaking on the meaning behind the song, Captain Crocodile shares: “The track, in essence, is about severing toxic habits from your life—and the vulnerability and anxiety that often comes with it. The world is a stressful and demanding place; it’s easy to build negative relationships, and even harder to break away from them.”
Opening with a pulsing bassline and warped, trippy textures, the track’s low vibrato vocals hover just beneath the surface—haunting and understated, like a presence that doesn’t want to be noticed. That uneasy undertone mirrors the song’s core theme: the struggle to confront and let go of toxic and addictive patterns.
At the 1:45 mark, the track begins to build as the phrase “your slithery fum” repeats, growing more insistent—making it harder to ignore the insidious force it represents, something almost ever-present and quietly consuming.
“Your Slithery Fum” is vibey without trying too hard—perfect for zoning out, letting it play in the background, or putting it on during a drive when you’ve got a lot on your mind. It’s the kind of track that draws you in slowly, then lingers long after it ends.
