Nigerian artist Kizz Daniel releases his new EP, "UNCLE K: LEMON CHASE. " This intimate, soulful project serves as a window into the artist’s heart before the release of his hotly anticipated album, Uncle K. Throughout seven tracks, Kizz Daniel carries listeners on a journey through a space where sweet meets sour neatly encapsulating the complexities of life, love, and loss in just over 17 minutes.
Kicking off with “Black Girl Magic,” a rousing verse about the beauty of Black women and not giving a shit, the EP gets into its feels right away in bright, life-loving sunshine and heart-wrenching neon. “Eyo” follows with an effervescent Lagos spirit, balancing nostalgia with pop rhythms that are both classic and of the moment, one of the standout joys of the project.
Kizz Daniel continues to highlight his collaborative mastery on the project, linking with Fola on loyalty anthem “Titi”, Sauti Sol on fan favourite “Oshe”, and Runtown on the tender “Peace I Chose,” the latter being the first time Kizz has ever delivered another artist’s written lyrics. The spiritual heart of “Al Jannah” (featuring Odumodublvck and Bella Shmurda) treats parties with reverent remembrance; “Secure” (featuring Zlatan) addresses wealth, clarity, and life’s deceptions.
The project reaches a crescendo with “Police,” an unexpected pleasure that pairs him with the legendary Angélique Kidjo and the singer-songwriter Johnny Drille to close the project with romantic, whimsical flair. It's a big statement of artistic maturity.” It's Kizz Daniel as introspective and inventive as ever, turning lemons into sonic gold. Counting down to Uncle K., this EP shows he’s mastering it.
