Acclaimed composer and musician Gibran Alcocer has taken the music world by storm with his imaginative, emotive and unique compositions. The classical artist first found success creating piano covers on his social media platforms. Soon, Alcocer released his own music with his hit debut single "Idea 10" in 2022. After a myriad of impactful piano-forward releases, Gibran Alcocer returns with the enchanting "Idea 12", a layered and lush musical reverie.

Gibran Alcocer's music is a masterclass in whimsy, intimacy, and melancholic nostalgia. We chat with the creator on his success, hometown, upcoming tour and more. The result is a read just as enticing as his musical releases.

Hi Gibran Alcocer, so excited to chat with you. Can you tell us more about your composition "Idea 12"?

It is one of my favorite ideas, I tried to mix a little bit of new sounds into my piano sound, also making it more diverse than other songs I've made.

What do you hope listeners take away from your music if anything?

I would like people to connect with the music and bring back memories every time they listen to it.

You first began sharing covers on social media platforms including TikTok and Instagram but began releasing your own original music shortly after. Why did you feel compelled to share these into the world?

I was going through a hard time in my life, my parents pushed me into releasing my own music instead of just covers, if it wasn’t because of that, all my songs would stay in my computer forever. I never really imagined the connection people will reach with it.

You found massive success with "Idea 10", ultimately the song became the #1 most streamed classical song in the world and it has over 1 billion streams. How has your life changed since the release?

It has been the best moment of my life, now i get to work and make a living from the thing I love to do more, music. It just feels amazing to know other people connect with my music, for a long time I made it for myself, thinking I was the only person going to hear it, this has changed my life completely.

Who are some of your collaborators and what do they also bring to the music?

I’ve worked with only a few artists, but each of them bring something different to the music, working with a pianist like Andrea Vanzo helped me to see a different style of composing and made me push myself a little bit more for the orchestra arrangements, being part of Tainy's album pushed me into the Latin scene, experimenting with the piano for other genres, and looking their final work it’s amazing.

Who are some of your inspirations?

I listen to a lot of artists, but mainly I would say Patrick Watson, Lana Del Rey, Syml have been a huge part of my inspiration for melody’s and style.

You hail from Mérida, Mexico, how does this place influence your sound?

Mérida is a very calm city, we have a beach near to the city so I just love taking inspiration from the surroundings and landscapes.

Next month you are headed for some live shows in Europe. What can listeners expect from the live performances?

Those are my first shows so I’m very excited for it, I just really want people to hear me play my songs live with real feelings on it, more than just a recording.

Besides the tour, what is next for Gibran Alcocer?

I want to start doing collaborations, prepare a bigger tour with more cities, expand to other genres too, and always keep making music.
