LA-based singer, songwriter, musician, poet, writer, and baker David Franklin Courtright announces debut LP Brutal Tenderness with serene new offering “Boy.”
A stripped-back number that pays ode to being shy and all the feelings that come with falling in love, the track draws from Courtright’s personal experiences to capture the relatability of dealing with overwhelming emotions and uncertainties.
Speaking of the track, he says, "I wrote 'Boy' a few months after I moved to Los Angeles in early 2019. I met this boy that I had really intense feelings for and on our second date I was so nervous (and made the mistake of getting stoned) that I was so in my head I could barely participate in the date, I even had to go to his bathroom and like give myself a pep talk in the mirror. This song came out of that feeling of panic, being so in your own head that you don’t know who you are around someone or think maybe the person that you truly are won’t be lovable or attractive.”
The track is an enticing glimpse of the tender yet triumphant reclamation of self that the album is set to be. Offering love, compassion, peace and joy to the inner-child, the album breaks veneers of false masculinity to deliver a gleeful collection of self-expression, rooted in a kaleidoscope of emotional and kinetic soundscapes.
