CHUB turns up the heat with "Microwave Dave"

South Coast punks CHUB are here to torch the joint, gulp your pint, and leave you grinning in the wake of the carnage. Their new single, “Microwave Dave,” is the kind of sonic riot you’d expect from them. Raw, loud, and unapologetically fun, it’s the kind of track that stinks of sweat, beer, and that certain spark a band just hitting its stride.

Fresh from their fiery thrust into the Bloodstock new band stage, CHUB show us no less of a wait by the networking post to celebrate this feral new release. “Microwave Dave” storms in like a barroom brawl on a Friday night, a sub2½-minute, all-flash, no-substance punk anthem powered by serrated riffs, shout-along choruses, and sheer, unadulterated attitude.

From the first dirty chord, it’s evident that CHUB knows their lane. This is working-class punk rock to its core. But there’s an art to making such chaos sound this tight. The song tears along with an out-of-control precision that only comes from a band who’ve sharpened their claws in sticky club floors and festival trenches.

The single, “Microwave Dave,” is cryptic but commanding, half inside joke, half everyman anthem. You don’t need to know who Dave is to feel the punch to your chest when the chorus comes in. There’s that punk energy undercurrent throughout, messy, relatable, rowdy. It’s not difficult to imagine this song tearing through a sweaty, jammed band room with plastic pint cups launched into the air and the punters shouting every word of the song at the stage.

CHUB delivers both in spades in a genre built on honesty and heat. ‘Microwave Dave’ is a gnar nugget showing CHUB cannonballing into it, grinning and flipping the bird. As evidenced by this single, we're looking at one of the following great British punk bands. And “Microwave Dave.” You’ll be hollering along to that one when they blow the roof off your local dive.
