Andrea Wittgens ponders the spiritual and existential with "The Twist"

NYC based artist and prolific songwriter Andrea Wittgens has just shared her album Big Dreams Little Earthlings. The full length is a ten track oasis of cinematic sonics, anthemic hooks, and mood-drenched rhythms. Blending genres including alternative pop, rock, jazz, punk, rockabilly and more, the music is Andrea Wittgens' most adventurous to date. The album details themes including feminine rage, sadness, loss, hope and more. The highlight of the album is the single "The Twist".

With "The Twist", Andrea Wittgens pens an existential song all about the desire to connect with the divine but also feeling cynical and unsettled. She realizes that she is just a human and has a dark side that can linger. She sings, "Keep singing those hymns and I'll do the twist / Dr. says there is a rage inside of me / I said really I thought that was love actually." Musically, "The Twist" is a mesmerizing collision of sound with sultry, seductive vocals, rockabilly guitars and vivid storytelling. There is a hazy glamour of the vintage in the single as it is filled with descriptions of Route 66 and corrupt evangelists. The song is an exhilarating, unconventional burst of rhythm and emotion that leaves a lasting impression. It's a hypnotic loop of percussive bass, relentless thrilling guitar riffs, and explosive drums, showcasing Wittgens at her most daring and playful.

Andrea Wittgens was born in Nova Scotia but relocated to NYC to further her musical career. The artist teamed up with producer Ainjel Emme (Kim Gordon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Anthony Lopez ( Kim Gordon, Charlie XCX) for her "creative rebirth". The result is music that is unorthodox, emotionally transparent, and artistically fearless.
