Mouth Water creates a hazy atmosphere with "Smoke"

Italian producer Mouth Water released his newest single, "Smoke".

Built on a foundation of driving synth-pop beats and paper-thin, airy vocals, ‘Smoke’ creates an atmospheric haze of introspective nostalgia.

Mouth Water states, “Smoke was born from the urge to tell a story of escape. It’s about a girl trying to leave her past behind, crossing borders with a suitcase of smoke – a hint she might not be who she says she is.”

He also added that it’s a ‘hymn to freedom’ and an ode to how in today’s world you can ‘never truly disappear’.

This sense of freedom is perfectly encapsulated in the lyrics ‘you do the things that you like / you eat your breakfast at night / you’re not afraid to be right’. These lyrics tell the story of a person who is fiercely individual and not afraid to put themselves first. At the same time, the lyrics ‘you’re moving quick out of sight/ you’re just about to ignite / you’ll be gone faster than light’ tells a darker story; one of a person trying to outrun their own shadow, afraid to make connections in case they can’t leave how they want to.

All of this is layered on top of gorgeous dream-pop melodies and mid-tempo drum effects, held together by Mouth Water’s hazy vocal effects to create a hypnotic soundscape for any fan of the bittersweet.

Mouth Wate -, also known as Lawrence Fancelli – is particularly well known for his skill at combining genres. Appealing to both big crowds who are ready to dance and the dance fans who prefer to rave at home, his particular blend of house, 80s electro-pop, and straightforward synth-pop sensibilities has won him fans ever since he started performing his own music in 2023, after many years of working as a sound engineer.
