Etherdene embraces the power of letting go in new single, ‘Forsaker’

Oregon-based singer, songwriter, and producer Etherdene is back today with her ambitious new single ‘Forsaker,’ a daring, fervent anthem that plumbs the depths of the emotional complexities involved with letting go of what no longer serves us. Etherdene draws on a combination of alt-pop, synth-pop and indie-pop influence for a sonic exploration of heart-wrenching vulnerability and empowering honesty.

At its heart, ‘Forsaker’ is an unblinking meditation on heartbreak, but not exactly in the way you might think. This is an awakening to self-hood, a moment of reckoning in which Etherdene assumes control of her own narrative. The song stems from a personal experience in which she came to see the end of a professional partnership, one she believed would lead to greater things but that ultimately left her feeling hurt.

The single, ‘Forsaker’ throbs with cinematic propulsion, fusing lush synths and anthemic beats with Etherdene’s soaring, emotive vocals. As the production builds in intensity, so does the battle within to hold on and ultimately to let go. The swell of the song brings a palpable sense of catharsis, letting listeners bask in the heaviness of loss and the buoyancy of newfound freedom.

What sets ‘Forsaker’ apart, though, is its relatability, Etherdene’s words will hit home immediately for anyone who has had to make the tough decision to sever a connection in love, friendship or work. It’s an anthem for people who have battled self-doubt but ultimately chose themselves.

With her introspective storytelling and dynamic production, Etherdene continues to (slowly) forge a path through the alt-pop world, demonstrating yet again that in music vulnerability and strength can coexist beautifully. ‘Forsaker’ is an experience, a testament to both the courage it takes to walk away and the strength that follows.
