"Babylon" is the first posthumous single from the Oxnard innovator.
It's been over a year since we lost the graces of Matthew Urango, A.K.A. Cola Boyy, an Oxford-based producer, singer, and activist who embodied the human spirit in the bodacious art of funk, yet his touch with people and sense of kindness still remains present.
"Babylon" is the first single off Cola Boyy's final studio album, a project that he worked on every step of the process from the coordination of singles to the mastering up until he passed. "Babylon" presents the same raw, dynamic energy Urango brought to his style of dance music, with a catchy chorus to match.
The video is accompanied by a visual that captures the essence of Urango's music, highlighting the beauty of his small hometown and the resistance of the brown and queer citizens that brought its artistry. Director Joey Frank
“The dance and location and props and actress are pieced together from text thread about the video between director Joey Frank and Cola weeks and even days before the surprise of his death. We filmed the video in Oxnard on Valentine’s Day, as a thank you to Cola Boyy on the day that would also have been his 35th birthday.”
