Powerhouse indie-rock band The Open Flames bring forth a fiery combination of hard-lived experience and new relationship energy on debut album Same Time Next Year.
An expansive project that moves lonely melancholia to lush vibrance, we’re led through layers of explosive drums, inventive basslines, distorted guitars and ragged vocals to deliver a world filled with everything from arena-rock to punk energy and psychedelic soundscapes, alongside quieter, intimate moments of longing.
From the groovy feels of “Drop A Coin” to the raging crescendo of “Lockdown,” to other dynamic anthems like "Falling Up," and "Eat Alone," the project is stacked with a little bit of everything for an immersive listening experience.
Speaking of the album, they day, “This album is about growing into a band together. It started as a friendship being rekindled. Since our lives diverged in high school, David has been living literally all over the world, experiencing some seriously unreal conditions in developing countries and rich countries alike. I’ve been on major labels, indie labels, and generally leading a rock and art life all around the US with Paige. But he’s the guy who got me playing music in the first place. So when he sent me a song and I knew just what it needed, it felt like we could complete the circuit and work together at last. The title literally describes how we pulled it off, jumping into a studio in London’s Camden Town whenever we had a free moment.”
Blending attitude and experience with rough-edged, literate alt-rock, The Open Flames continue to light up the music world with their intense talent and experience.
