New England singer-songwriter and touring artist Sam Robbins has just shared the second single off of his forthcoming album So Much I Still Don’t See. Called "Piles of Sand", the track follows his single and music video "What a Little Love Can Do” shared last month.
"Piles of Sand" is reminiscent of a song that a legendary folk artist would write. The introspective and reflective folk ballad was written in the moment and from a place of observation on a riverside path in Nashville. He shares, "watching and feeling gravel being blasted for a high flying condo building across the street was a very inspiring moment. After walking further and seeing a huge pile of gravel soaring high across the street, the first chorus lyric was immediately written down as it appears in the song now". He sings reminiscing in this moment, “I thought it was a mountain but it was just a pile of sand towering so high / A nine to five creation”. Sonically, "Piles of Sand" features intricate and emotive guitar picking and dreamy melodies. The sparing arrangement—a guitar paired with Robbins' plaintive voice—creates an emotional depth that resonates deeply. The song is minimal yet so effective, relying on acoustic guitar and understated orchestration, allowing his voice and the lyrics to take center stage. "Piles lf Sand" feels timeless and it is a warm sonic embrace.
