Arliston Releases Debut Album 'Disappointment Machine'

London-based duo Arliston have released their debut album, Disappointment Machine, out now. This deeply introspective record explores unrequited love, heartbreak, and the ache of "what if?"

Described as “sad song specialists,” Arliston blends minimalist pianos, ambient synths, and Ratcliffe’s brooding baritone to create an immersive soundscape. The album's leading track, "Scratches", is a fragile, piano-led ballad capturing the quiet devastation of a failed reconciliation.

Written mostly in just two weeks, the album balances sorrow and resilience. Tracks like "Time Lost" reflect on missed chances, while "What Did I Think Would Happen" unpacks emotional fallout with striking honesty. Amid the melancholy, there’s wry humor in "Sleep Well Bean," where Ratcliffe compares himself not to James Bond or James Dean—but to Mr. Bean.

The album follows a narrative arc, closing on "Stay in Brixton," where painful memories are gradually replaced with hope. With evocative storytelling and intricate soundscapes, Disappointment Machine cements Arliston as a band to watch—transforming heartbreak into something deeply resonant and beautifully cathartic.
