Rumia shatters reality with ethereal new single, ‘Shift in the Air’

Starting 2025 with her own stunning statement, Rumia releases her new single, "Shift in the Air." This compelling fusion of sparkling electric guitar licks and textural storytelling is for you if you like Natalie Imbruglia, Moderat, and Radiohead. This track is a pretty haunting trip to the unknown.

What was meant as a songwriting exercise that Kohn, Daria Kickler, and Rumia did together in a couple of days yielded something so much more, "Shift in the Air" was born. Rather than adhere to a traditional lyrical framework, she weaves a hallucinatory narrative in which the main character starts to doubt their reality. Imprisoned in a model of a world they used to know, they stand by as their closest disappear, memories only. It’s a striking premise laced perfectly with the song’s airy reproduction, drawing listeners into its surreal, bucolic realm.

Rumia’s fragile but powerful vocals drift above a lush instrumental bed, infusing each note with introspection and wonder. The song thrums with an undercurrent of restless energy, alternating between sorrow and elation, just like the story that nothing is exactly as it seems. The song stitches together glimmering guitar lines that push the music forward with a sense of cinematic tension that lingers long after the last chord has dissipated.

An adventure that is as much about exploration as it is about celebration, with "Shift in the Air," Rumia reveals an intimate and expansive world. If this release shows what’s to come, 2025 will be a breakout year for the up-and-coming artist.
