Fake Dad tackles misogyny in the music business with "Machinery"

Los Angeles musical duo Fake Dad has just shared their latest single "Machinery". The new single is the latest and final off of their upcoming EP Holly Wholesome and the Slut Machine that is set for release next month.

With "Machinery", Fake Dad shine a light on the perils of the music industry. Many women in entertainment are pressured to change themselves or play a role to be more successful and profitable. Andrea sings, "What's it about me / Am I just a piece of machinery / Put the lipstick on your face," acknowledging this messed up situation. Musically, "Machinery" is an enthralling amalgamation of punk rock, indie pop, and riot grrrl, that stands proudly in both the underground and mainstream spaces. The track’s buzzing guitars and pounding rhythms are undeniably catchy, but there’s an edge to the lyrics that feels like it’s pulling the rug out from under the listener. It’s a record that dances as much as it defies, and it is an essential listen and critique for something that has gone unnoticed for far too long.

Fake Dad is the musical project of songwriters and musicians Andrea de Varona and Josh Ford. Formed in NYC, the duo moved to Los Angeles making music in their bedroom. The twosome have received both critical and commercial acclaim, racking up millions of listeners across the globe. The band is set to play SXSW and more this year. Check out their new single and share this important song with your friends and family.
