Talented singer-songwriter Camille Schmidt has just shared her latest single "Stanley" off of her forthcoming album Nude #9. The Brooklyn-based artist has received fast critical acclaim since her debut EP Good Person. Nude #9 marks a new chapter for the artist leaning into a more indie pop and indie rock sound.
With "Stanley", Camille Schmidt pens a song all about isolation and a lack of meaningful connections. The track was inspired by a true story of Camille hearing the name Stanley on an airplane and these women's conversations surrounding him. The artist began contemplating what it means to be alone but also the deeper and more painful feelings of loneliness when someone you are with doesn't fulfill or understand you. She sings, "Going nowhere / Got two hands / And no one to hold them / I had a hot matcha / And a heart attack," infusing her signature sharp wit into the poignant song. Musically, "Stanley" is a raucous indie rock banger complete with an enticing fuzzy guitar riff, Camille's warm vocals and textured and raw sonic flourishes. The guitar-driven single has an undercurrent of tension and is a tightrope walk between calm and chaos mirroring the track's narrative.
Camille Schmidt is a rising and compelling artist who blends genres including indie rock, synth-pop, folk and Americana. She is known for her unflinchingly honest songs that are often written completely during stream of consciousness. Check out "Stanley" now and add it to your favorite playlist.
