Scottish singer/songwriter Blair Gilmour may only be 18 years old, but his music offers a maturity far beyond his years. His newest single “Burning Up,” written in Spain, was originally a nod to the scorching weather but quickly evolved into a bold and brash anthem. It delves into the sacrifices we make to our mental health for the sake of others.
We’ve all been there—completely addicted to someone or something, to the point where life without it feels meaningless. Yet, this intoxicating relationship often takes a toll on our own well-being as we lose sight of ourselves and our own sense of identity.
Gilmour shares, “At a writing camp in Spain, I suggested how you can love something/ someone that you know is bad for you and your mental health but still be in the chase for it/them. I'd say the song is exactly that: being so emotionally attached to a thing or person that you are prepared to destroy yourself mentally in order to keep its/ their presence.”
Featuring crashing guitars and rambunctious percussion, “Burning Up” is a fast-paced, feel-good track that will have you chanting along from start to finish.
