Los Angeles born and bred singer/songwriter Kaitlyn Olson delivers some of her most authentic work to date with her debut EP, After The Rain. The four-track bedroom pop release is infused with soulful, velvet tones all underpinned with vibey R&B beats. Covering themes such as love and heartbreak, the emotion-fueled release takes the listener on a journey of personal growth and inner-strength in the face of adversity. Showcasing a rawness and vulnerability, After The Rain is both inspiring and deeply moving.
Title-track “After The Rain” demonstrates Olson’s ability to take real life events and stories of heartache and turn them into an empowering, uplifting anthem. Originally finding inspiration from a laughable situation that happened with her ex-boyfriend, where he tried to lure her back in by FaceTiming her to flaunt his family's collection of fine jewels, the track soon then turned into a song for her best friend, who was going through a rough breakup.
Olson explains, "I was so inspired by my wake up call that day, that I wanted to write a song for her to let her know that everything was going to be okay! The song is for anyone with a broken heart who's hoping to have the last laugh over someone who wasn't worth their tears in the first place, because "After the rain, roses sprout out of the ground." The message in the song, however, is more about finding self-love than anything, which is always a place I try to write from, as embodied in the lyric, "You find light you never found, even when no one's around."
With its heartfelt storytelling, emotive soundscapes, and genuine honesty, After The Rain not only showcases her undeniable talent but also highlights her ability to turn personal experiences into universally relatable anthems.
